Monday, January 16, 2023, marked the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. King is an inspiring man with significant events that have become influential in today’s society.
After failed federal Reconstruction and persistent racism, Dr. King pushed for more civil rights to be granted to African Americans. Unlike most civil rights activists, Dr. King took a peaceful less radical approach to change. His foundation was built on non-violence protests, marches, and boycotts.
Dr. King dreamed of an integrated America. One of his most influential protests was the March on Washington in 1963.
Working with the NAACP, Dr. King organized a march to the Washington Monument; where over 200, 000 people joined him and tuned in to the infamous, “I Have A Dream” speech.
“I have a dream… one day in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers”, said Dr.King.
60 years later and he is still impacting the way people see the world. Cincinnati had its’ 48th commemorative march from the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center to Washington Park. During the march, you can see Dr. King’s dream coming true; black and white people walking together in solidarity, equal to one another. Our country had been forever altered by the actions of Martin Luther King Junior.
