This year’s Lakota West Prom will look a little different than in the past. Prom is scheduled for April 24th from 8 pm to 11 pm at the Savannah Center. Unlike previous years, this year’s prom will be exclusive to Lakota West seniors only due to COVID restrictions. Absolutely no underclassmen or students from other schools will be allowed. Additionally, masks will be required and all tickets can only be purchased online for $35. When I asked Principle Ben Brown about the decision he said, “for a long time I thought we weren’t going to be able to have a Prom, but just within the past couple weeks public health officials allowed us with capacity restrictions.” He also added, “I feel for the Juniors and other underclassmen who will not be able to attend this year, but I am thrilled for the seniors who absolutely deserve to have this moment.” There are 638 students in the senior class, and a 600 student capacity at the Savannah Center, but past trends encourage Mr. Brown to expect around 450 seniors to attend. After an unpredictable 2020-21 school year, this is a good way to end our high school career.
