Making over $277 million in the box office worldwide, certified fresh at 97% for Rotten Tomatoes, and currently nominated for over 10 awards including several Golden Globe and Academy Awards, the new movie Knives Out is definitely worth seeing. Knives Out is about the twisted dynamic of a family grieving the recent loss of their grandfather Harlan Thrombey due to an apparent suicide. However, as the investigation continues, viewers find he may not have committed suicide but perhaps was murdered. The murder mystery is both dark and funny, keeping movie-goers at the edge of their seats for a whole 190 minutes. As senior Jenna Grammer says, “you would expect murder films to be serious but I laughed the whole time.” Although she is not usually into murder mysteries she loved Knives Out! Throughout all the twists and turns it takes, Knives Out keeps you guessing about who the real murderer is.
The murder investigation begins after a famous detective gets an anonymous letter to look into the death of Harlan Thrombey. Investigators begin to interview every member of the family along with Thrombey’s nurse to determine the true cause of death. The family is originally in shock that there would even be an investigation, but the contents of their grandfathers will point to an unlikely suspect. The audience is able to see each member of the family’s character development and portrays the contrast between a wealthy and a poor family.
Starring Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Daniel Craig, Ana De Armas, Michael Shannon, Katherine Langford, and Christopher Plummer, Knives Out boasts a celebrity for every generation! While talking with Jenna Grammer she felt the movie “perfectly balanced everything, humor with the darkness of murder mystery.” The movie gives subtle hints of who the murderer is while sending the audience down a completely different path. This movie is rated PG-13 and is appropriate for everyone to see. If you enjoy murder mysteries or comedies it will be worth the purchase of the ticket!
“The family is truly desperate. And when people get desperate, the knives come out.”
